spacerStand By Your Van

MicaMICA and “THE GRIM CREEPER”
Interviewed February 2016.

Name, age, where you live:
Mica (Some people call me Stilts. Enough to make it my handle for every social media account ever at least.) I’m 26 years old and I live in Orange County, CA.

What kind of van do you have?
I drive a bitchin’ 1978 Dodge Tradesman 200.

Tell us about any customizing you have done on on your van.
Well I haven’t gotten around to doing any on this van just yet. It’s kind of a time capsule and I think I’ve had too much of an emotional attatchment to change anything, but I’m currently planning on tearing down the original ceiling which I think is just made out of dry wall or something. The plan is to throw some nice leather diamond tuck panels up there. We’ll see how I can manage that!

Any future plans in the works for the van?
I have a lot of plans for my van after I get it in good running order. I’d like to get heart rims, raise it a bit, also install heart shaped bubble windows and a heart shaped table inside. Maybe even a heart shaped entry to the bed in the back, who knows!  I might get sick of seeing hearts all the time!  I’d also like to tear the carpet out and install wood floors and give the shag a restoration, but that shag will never go!

Have you “rocked” your van?
I’m going to assume this means banging... maybe that says something about where my head is at, but anyways, yeah of course!

Any past vans you’ve owned?
The van I owned before this was my first van and it was also a 78. I called it Chester Vanderbeek and it was a Chevy G20. That thing was awesome. So many crazy memories that should never be repeated out loud for anyone to hear ever. Yikes.

Are you in a van club?
I wish I was! I’ve been thinking about forming my own lately because I don’t know of any vanner babe clubs in the area of Orange County that I live. I only know three other women with vans of their own, unfortunately. It really is a dudes club, but I think that is changing.

Do you go to vanning events?

I always want to, but timing and money has always been an issue and those events are always nearly two hours from where I live. Not to mention my van hasn’t always run very smoothly.

The Grim CreeperWhat are your favorite places to take your van?
I love taking it to the beach, through black star canyon near my house, I’ve taken it camping in various places, it always comes with me to shows that I go to... that’s just a must! My next big plans are to take it to Joshua Tree!

How and when did your lust for vans begin?

My grandparents had a van growing up and I can without a doubt say that that is when my lust for vans began. I always envisioned myself driving a van when I grew up. Look at me now, I’ve come full circle!

What do you think about the current van “scene” today?
I really dig a lot about the van scene today, but I think with everything there are always some downsides. For instance, the fact that it is a dudes scene is kind of a bummer but like I said previously, I think that is changing. And I mean, there have always been women in the van scene I just think more women are recognizing how awesome it is today.

quoteAny other van-related things you do?
I take pictures as a hobby I guess you’d call it.  I’m certainly not professional, although I’d like to be. I’ve just started a babes in vans series. I’d like to have a bulk of photos of women who own their own vans and portraits of them, but I’d also highly enjoy just doing some really fun shoots of babes in vans in general. My instagram is @ladystilts and my website is ladystilts.com.

What other kinds of wheels do you roll?
I used to ride a rigid frame 86 Evo that was chopped the f*ck out, but with some recent health issues in my hips and knees I had to sell the chopper for something with more of a comfortable ride. It broke my heart. The plan is to get a Harley Sportster 48. Other than that I don’t really have anything other than my van at the moment. I need to buy a reliable set of wheels and I have my eyes set on an FJ Cruiser. I used to skate, but my body told me I had to stop a long time ago. I’ve recently started going to the roller rink though! And my boyfriend’s mom got me a hover board thing for christmas so I guess I roll around on that sometimes too.

Sky’s the limit, describe your ULTIMATE wet dream van.
I’m gonna be really cheesy and say that I already have my wet dream van.  My van is everything I could have ever dreamed of driving and it's perfect for me. It suits my personality and taste to a T. I think when I finish everything I want to do to it it will be even more of a wet dream for me.

MicaWhat are some must have tunes to crank while cruising in your van?
You really don’t want me to start this list, because it will go on forever. My staples are Black Sabbath, ACDC, Judas Priest, Metallica, Foghat, Sleep, Pentagram and I listen to a lot of shitty black metal in there. I think 80s metal is a must though.

Ford, Chevy or Dodge?
I don’t discriminate! I love them all! I’ve only loved Chevy and Dodge enough to buy though!

Ass, gas or grass?
Grass every time. I’m not the asshole who asks for gas money, I’m not a taxi. Hangout with me and give me good conversation and good grass and I’m the happiest little peach you've ever seen!

Plether, shag or tuck-n-roll?

I’m all about that shag! Can’t get enough of it!
